It all starts with the vision of an artist–and the skill of a craftsman who weaves creativity into an age-old process that’s rich in tradition and technique.
Designing
1/8
Timelessly Creative
Like an artist’s first stroke on a blank canvas, a designer’s vision for a rug comes to life. Our designers aim to create rugs that are timelessly creative–inspired by the past, but never beholden to it, and reflective of styles that will live on for years to come.
Graphing
2/8
Real-Life Vision
Our designers map all the elements, motifs, colors, and proportions of the rug onto graph paper. This is where their unique knowledge and expertise comes in; everything they know about what makes a rug–and a great rug at that–is coupled with their initial creative vision.
Translating
3/8
Speaking Rug
It’s the beautiful, ancient language that our designers use to transform a rug’s technical details into a physical piece. After a rug’s specifics are “translated,” they’re handed off to the craftsmen in the looms who use it to inform its color palette and intricate construction.
Spinning
4/8
Wool Made
Both hand and machine-spun wool work to ensure our rugs’ quality, durability–and most of all–everlasting beauty. Many materials go into making your industry-standard rug, but we “go against the grain” and purposefully rely on this loyal, elemental material time and time again.
Dyeing
5/8
Real Color
Once the wool is spun, our craftsmen carefully prepare it for weaving using organic dyes. By choosing sustainable, eco-friendly dyes, we can complement the wool with colors that are authentic and real, while also providing a more natural texture and feel.
Weaving
6/8
Global Tradition
Rug weaving is cross-cultural, making it one of the most vibrant artistic practices of our time. Needless to say, not all handmade rugs are woven the same: Every people and country follows their own craft. Our craftsmen work to pay homage to the breadth of cultures in this tradition and to express their variances.
Washing
7/8
Revealing Wonder
For our craftsmen, this is one of the most exciting steps in the process. As we wash water over the surface of the rug, the designers’ creative vision begins to appear: The rug’s final design, texture, and bold colors burst forth with every stroke.
Finishing
8/8
Final Touches
At this last–yet equally important step–the rug is stretched to its final form, ironed out to texture, meticulously cut along the fringes, and trimmed to perfection. Now, all this work of art needs is your ground to lay on.

The world is full of thoughtless, careless design—you can't control any of that. What you can control is what goes on inside your own home. Great design is not a bunch of isolated, individual, beautiful things. It's about how all of those carefully chosen elements contribute to one beautiful home. We sell that missing piece.
